Agentic AI will increasingly mediate how people discover information, coordinate, transact, and make decisions. If built on open protocols and well-designed mechanisms, these functions can support competitive markets, decentralized discovery, user control, and meaningful public oversight.
Open Memory Protocol Consortium (OMPC)
Memory is a key component of agentic intelligence yet currently a walled garden. The Open Memory Protocol Consortium (OMPC) is a multi-stakeholder, non-profit initiative aimed at incubating open, interoperable specifications for portable AI memory. It is housed at the AI Disclosures Project, a project of Code for Science & Society. It aims to be a 'light-weight' working group with an emphasis on experimentation to make rapid progress, including through coding 'bakeoffs' (as convenings) that advance real non-reference implementations in order to find technological market fit.
Specifications are designed to be model-, harness-, and application-agnostic, with multi-user (shared memory), memory provenance, and privacy as first-order design considerations. In AI systems, memory is part of the context layer supplied to models that enable personalization in conversation and agentic action. Memory may be user-provided or model-learned, and is scoped to either a project, user, or organization.
Skills Marketplace
Launching a skills marketplace with monetization for skills authors based on modular, interoperable, rights-protected skills, with proven uplift to agentic performance. All specifications and code will be open-sourced, to be used as a prototype for others to adopt. Initial testing is with O'Reilly Media authors.
The AI Market Design Workshop
The AI Market Design Workshop is a monthly seminar for presenting draft research and prototype implementations. It convenes economists and market-shaping engineers from academia, AI labs, and technology companies to consider how decentralized, functioning digital markets can emerge on the basis of artificial intelligence and agentic intermediation.
The workshop follows the market design tradition of the ‘economist as engineer’, in which theory is disciplined by its concrete potential to shape & create markets.
The Open Alpha Registry
Enabling efficiently sourced information for agentic consumption based on the alpha it provides an agent, to be combined with user relevancy. Co-authored with and contributions from Alissa Cooper, Geoffrey Bilder, Markus Mobius, and Anna Tumadóttir.
Agent-to-Agent Communication
Broadcasting (one-to-many) rather than one-to-one communication, as the basis for decentralized, intelligent markets. Our Nostr relay prototype gives agents stable identities that can communicate and discover without a central registry, to be advanced with the Nostr community.
